July 3, 2025 (Salt Lake City) – Utah’s consumer sentiment rose 1.5% in June, according to the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute’s Survey of Utah Consumer Sentiment. This modest monthly change (from 81.1 in May to 82.3 in June) is well within the survey’s margin of error. A similar survey conducted by the University of Michigan found a significant change (16.3%) in sentiment during June among Americans as a whole.

“The June change marks the second consecutive month of increases for the Utah Consumer Sentiment Index and the first monthly increase for the U.S. Consumer Sentiment Index since December 2024,” said Phil Dean, chief economist at the Gardner Institute. “Despite the recent increases for the national and state indices, they remain 18.0% and 9.8% below their respective levels in December 2024, illustrating ongoing consumer concerns about the economy caused by uncertain U.S. trade policy, elevated inflation expectations, and global geo-political risks.”
