The Salt Lake Tribune and Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute announce the next “Storytelling through Data” event, a co-sponsored series of conversations focusing on data-grounded, solutions-oriented dialogue critical to life quality in Utah.

States and the federal government share a vital fiscal relationship as they both independently and jointly deliver government services. However, stark differences mark this fiscal partnership. As the 2024 election approaches, voters have expressed concern over the federal government deficit and the use of debt as a primary contingent management tool. Many policymakers in Washington D.C. are now looking to states like Utah as they consider how to improve federal fiscal processes and the fundamental role of states and the federal government.

Join state leaders and policy experts for a discussion on state and federal fiscal practices, federal government debt and deficit policies, and current efforts underway to better address disconnects and strengthen the federal-state fiscal relationship in Utah.

Salt Lake Tribune Executive Editor Lauren Gustus will moderate the conversation. Media are invited to attend and ask questions. The Gardner Institute will also release a report on the topic following the event.
