Demographics
The Gardner Institute provides demographic decision support to the Utah State Legislature and Office of the Governor. We produce population estimates and projections, as well as applied demographic research focused on Utah. We represent the state in work with the Census Bureau, including the State Data Center Program and Federal-State Cooperatives for Population Estimates and Projections. We work with the Census Bureau in the production, distribution, and analysis of their product.

Fact Sheet: U.S. Census Bureau Estimates for Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin, 2017
Each year, the Census Bureau produces population estimates at varying levels of geography. The release of the age, sex, race and Hispanic origin at the nation, state, and county level completes the 2017 vintage estimate package. Prior pieces of this release include national, state, county, metropolitan/micropolitan, and incorporated place (cities and towns) estimates for the 2017 vintage. All releases include annual estimates from Census 2010 to July 1, 2017.
Fact Sheet: U.S. Census Bureau Estimates for Incorporated Places and Housing Units, 2017
Each year, the Census Bureau produces population estimates at varying levels of geography. They have already released national, state, county, and metropolitan/micropolitan estimates for the 2017 vintage. This most recent release included annual population estimates for both incorporated places (cities and towns) as well as housing unit estimates at the state and county level from Census 2010 to July 1, 2017. Townships or other unincorporated communities are not included in this release.
Fact Sheet: U.S. Census Bureau Estimates by County, Metropolitan, and Micropolitan Areas, 2017
Each year, the Census Bureau releases population estimates at varying levels of geography. The most recent release, on March 22, 2018, included population estimates at the county, metropolitan, and micropolitan area geography with components of change. Metropolitan and micropolitan areas are statistical boundaries delineated by the Census Bureau. Metropolitan areas include at least one urbanized area with 50,000 or more inhabitants. Micropolitan areas are smaller, with populations falling between 10,000 and 50,000 inhabitants. Utah County Small Area Estimates, 2010-2016
The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute prepares small area population estimates to support informed decision making in Utah. This brief presents annual small area housing and population estimates for Utah County from 2010 to 2016. We produced these results using the housing unit method, one of the most widely used estimation methods for detailed geographic levels. This brief shares key information about this set of estimates, including county and small area (census tract) results. The data and methodology are also discussed. Note that all estimates refer to July 1 of each year.
Salt Lake County Small Area Estimates, 2010-2016
