Economic Report To The Governor

The Economic Report to the Governor has been the preeminent source for data and commentary on Utah’s economy for over 30 years. The Utah Economic Council, convened by the David Eccles School of Business and Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, publishes the report annually. Prior to 2014, the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget coordinated the publication of the Economic Report to the Governor. Those reports have been compiled into a separate archive on this page.

Utah’s decade long expansion, the longest on record, ended in 2020 with the emergence of COVID-19. The public health crisis presented the greatest challenge to the Utah economy since the Great Recession. In the early spring, the forecast for 2020 was bleak as the unemployment rate in April climbed to roughly 10%. But as the year unfolded, the resiliency of the Utah economy was on full display.
