The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute announces its next “Newsmaker Breakfast,” a monthly event highlighting current issues impacting the State of Utah.

Congress last raised the federal minimum wage nine years ago.  Since then, the cost of living has continued to increase. Many large companies with a presence in Utah, such as Amazon and Wal-Mart, announced plans to raise their wages for all employees. 31 states and many cities have a minimum wage higher than the federal mandate.  Is it time for Utah to raise the minimum wage?  What can seasonal-holiday employees expect?  What would be involved and what are the possible impacts?  Juliette Tennert, director of economic and public policy research at the Gardner Policy Institute, and Carrie Mayne, chief economist at the Utah Department of Workforce Services, will lead the discussion.

The conversation will be moderated by Kem C. Gardner Institute Director Natalie Gochnour. Media are invited to attend and ask questions.

RSVP to gardnerinstitute@eccles.utah.edu as space is limited.
