About Frank Hachman:
Mr. Hachman began his career at the University of Utah at the Bureau for Business and Economic Research (BEBR) in 1962. He was later made associate director of BEBR, a position he held until his retirement in 1999. As a skilled applied economist, Mr. Hachman made notable contributions in the fields of demographic projections and population estimates.
Most notably, Mr. Hachman developed what became known as the Hachman Index, a measure of economic diversity that compares the industry composition of a state to the industry composition of the nation by taking total industry employment in a state divided by total state employment, and comparing it to the national equivalent. The Hachman Index is currently used throughout the United States, Australia, and Canada.
