Join us for a day focused on the American Community Survey, joining colleagues from the Census Bureau, Population Reference Bureau, and local organizations.
We will:
- Interact with the director of the Census Bureau,
- Get updates from the Census Bureau,
- Hear from a panel of Utah data users about how they use the ACS in their work, and
- Provide feedback to the US Census Bureau about the learning resources available to ACS data users through small breakout sessions.

What’s New with the American Community Survey?

During this session, Donna Daily from the American Community Survey (ACS) Office at the U.S. Census Bureau will provide a brief introduction to the survey and discuss recent changes to the ACS, including innovations in how the data are collected and revisions to survey questions in 2024. She will also discuss recent testing of new and revised content for the ACS, helpful resources for data users, and how to stay engaged with the ACS program. Next, Rex Kung, a survey statistician at the Census Bureau, will discuss updates to data.census.gov, the Census Bureau’s primary data dissemination tool, as well as the Census application programming interface (API) and microdata access tool (MDAT). Finally, Lacey Loftin, a Data Dissemination Specialist (DDS) for the Census Bureau based in Austin, TX, will discuss how DDS can help you and your organization by providing trainings, workshops, and presentations at no cost.

This panel features individuals and organizations from Utah who use the ACS to inform their work. Panelists will discuss how they use the data to generate evidence that is used to inform policymaking, housing, and economic development throughout the state.
