State of Utah Population by Age, Sex, Race and Ethnicity, 2010–2019
Utah’s 2019 population was estimated at 3,220,272. Between 2010 and 2019, it grew by 447,875, representing an average annual percentage growth rate of 1.7 percent. The state remains relatively young with 29.3 percent of the population being preschool or school age (under 18), compared to 11.2 percent of retirement age (65 and older).

October 2020 Economic Summary
Utah’s nonagricultural employment decreased by an estimated 0.9%, or 14,800 jobs, between September 2019 and September 2020. Nationally, employment decreased by 6.4%, or 9.7 million jobs, between September 2019 and September 2020.
COVID-19’s Impact on Utah’s Travel and Tourism Industry, 2020
In early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic rattled the global travel and tourism industry with unprecedented force. As the virus surfaced in the U.S. in February, travel restrictions, flight cancellations, stay-at-home orders, and service-oriented business closures directly impacted visitor spending, tourism related jobs, and visitation trends.
October 2020 Utah Consumer Confidence
Our October survey of consumer sentiment—the first month this survey has been conducted—suggests sentiment may have a higher “level” in Utah than in the U.S., though we will need a few more months of data to confirm this. Table 1 shows responses to questions that define “sentiment” for Utah (our October survey) and the U.S. as a whole (from the University of Michigan).
