An exciting new partnership between The Salt Lake Tribune and Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute will formally launch April 6 with the first of four quarterly public policy discussions. The “Storytelling through Data Forum Series” will focus on data-grounded, solutions-oriented conversations critical to quality of life in Utah.

Our first forum will focus on the challenges surrounding the state’s rental housing market. Housing in Utah–its supply and affordability–has dominated policy talk, news headlines, and social media conversations for at least the past two years. The rental market is a major part of these discussions.

Rental prices along the Wasatch Front increased by 11%s annually between 2020 and 2022. By comparison, rental rates climbed 2.6% annually between 2010 and 2020. Home ownership, made even more challenging with rising interest rates, can seem a distant dream for many renters.

Join industry experts as they discuss the challenges and opportunities of Utah’s rental market. The event will be moderated by Salt Lake Tribune Executive Editor Lauren Gustus.
