Population Projections
Since 2015, the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute has been responsible for producing long-term demographic and economic planning projections for the State of Utah and all 29 counties. Currently, there are four products in this body of work:
- Long-term (50 year) projections of population, households, and economic indicators (released January 2022)
- Short-term (10 year) projections of population and households (released June 2019)
- Projections of the Utah population by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin, consistent with the long-term totals (released April 2019)
- Experimental population projections for all 50 states and Washington, D.C by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin- created from existing U.S. Census Bureau and University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center population projections (released June 2022)
The Utah long and short-term projections are updated every four years on an alternating schedule. Our most recent projections release was early 2022. Previous vintages created by the Gardner Institute, for reference purposes only, are available in our archive.
