Newsmaker Breakfast: “Autism in Utah and Around the World: Prevalence, Progress & Challenges

When: Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 8:30am

Where: Thomas S. Monson Center, 411 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84111

The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute will host a discussion on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts a greater proportion of the Utah population than the nation as a whole, as part of its monthly Newsmaker Breakfast series. The forum will include recommended steps policymakers can take to address what has been called an epidemic.

The newsmaker for the event will be Eric Fombonne, a psychiatrist, epidemiologist and leading expert on ASD at Oregon Health & Science University. Fombonne has completed ground-breaking studies of autism throughout the world and focuses on the prevalence of ASD, possible causes and potential treatments.

The event is free and open to the public. A light breakfast will be served.
